This new lantern from MPOWERD is bright enough to replace a camping lantern or even light up some of the largest tents. The color changing aspect is also very cool. The color, along with the app's brightness control and "timer" feature, can certainly be used to calm a nervous little one into falling asleep in the desert. Speaking of the app, it's comparable to other major home lighting control apps I've tried. Second hand. It's pretty easy to use (see some screenshots). The ability to change color is moderately accurate for a device at this price point, and for a device you seem to take on hikes. There's brightness control, an auto on/off schedule, and if you have more than one Luci Light you can group them and control several at the same time. You can also set rotating "moods" - a set of colors that rotate to create a specific atmosphere. The speaker is the only reason it gets 4 stars and not 5. The speaker can distort at over 65-70% volume (on my Pixel 4xl anyway). I'm fine with that (I don't listen to music at all), but I can see how annoying it is for some. Haven't had the chance to use a solar panel, but you can use the USB-A port to charge the unit from a power source or cellphone if needed, so that's a bonus. All in all, if you're looking for a lightweight, fun, rechargeable sunshine light, the Luci Explorer is great with the benefits of being a bluetooth speaker and phone battery backup!
