I went into this purchase with an open mind but was sadly disappointed. As a new artist I was hoping that these skins would meet my needs because you get a lot of skins for the price you pay but as the old saying goes "you get what you pay for". My first attempt I just wanted to start the day. Working lines with different pad cartridges, I've used 3rl, 7rl and 9rl and it was almost impossible as the ink just wouldn't stay unless you ran the same line several times or worked VERY slowly, even at around 8-9V, the skin also "bleeded" a bit after a few of my lines, which was very odd. The ink doesn't saturate and you have to press harder than you would on human skin. Also, I've used 7rs and 9rs at 8.5v and it was slow and still had horrible lines even when I almost went through my skin when testing. Weirdly, I got decent results using 11rm and 13rm and multi-pass shading methods, which was strange for me because the skin actually absorbed the ink smoothly, but what's a tattoo design without nice clear ones lines. I would recommend this skin to those who enjoy getting tattoos as if to "paint" that use very little padding in their designs or style. And finally, remember that this skin is difficult to clean. The only way to get a decently clean area was to use lots of A&D and paper towels, which is a huge waste of materials. And if you have a stencil on this skin, good luck keeping it. Even after drying for 24-48 hours with Stencil Stuff my stencil was worn out and I was just frustrated with the design because most of the stencil was lost to constant wiping. Who knows, maybe I had a "bad batch" or something. I might have had better luck with the thicker 3mm leather they sell. or maybe I'm just doing everything wrong. I know if I switched to human skin after thinking that skin looked like human skin, I would blow my mind away from everything I've done and it would put any new artist off ever touching the tattoo machine again. I'm glad other people have said good things and gotten decent results with their training designs, but I know I'm not the only person who finds these skins pretty awful. So BUYERS BEWARE, try these practice skins yourself. Take risks and know that you may or may not get good results. So I wish you the best of luck! I might have had better luck with the thicker leather they sell, but I don't know if I really want to try it as first impressions were so poor. Maybe I got a bad batch or something, who knows. *UPDATE* I bought 3mm leather and am still getting bad results. The top layer, when lined, creates "bumps" that only appear when lined. The ink pools under the thin top coat and looks horrible, when you go over those "bumps" the top coat peels off. I have seen other people's photos of their practical work, but I have not seen this issue photographed. I tried mixed skins 8x12 and 8x8 1.2 mm and 5 pcs. 8x12 3mm from this company and it happened to both skins. These skins are good for shading and enveloping black (I haven't tried the color) and they don't show any fallout or distortion, but the lining...that's where they really fall short. **UPDATE 2** I still maintain my experience with both sets of training skins I bought (1.2mm and 3mm thick tactical skins). Although I have personally had a bad experience with this product, I have to say that the company's customer support has been excellent and I have had several conversations with the support team who have met all of my needs. I wish these skins worked because the customer service alone would make my decision to buy from them again so much easier. Great Yuelong customer service team!
