Make sure you have a new DVR and the latest firmware

This review is for Reolink RLC-811A as of 05/09/21. Before I updated my dash cam's firmware, I wanted to give this camera 1 star. It took me about 6 hours of random fiddling to figure out why the talkback, handheld siren and headlight weren't working properly. After a firmware update, the system suddenly became everything Reolink advertised. You can read the Reolink advertisement to learn more about the features, all of them work for me with 4 identical cameras controlled by a Reolink 8ch dashcam (no SD cards installed in the cameras). However, I understand why some people had a low price. Valuation. It was too difficult for me to find a new dash cam and the latest firmware. I happened to come across this important piece of information somewhere on the internet or in a Reolink advertisement. Then it's too difficult to find out if you have a new dash cam and the latest firmware. The "old" NVR and the "new" NVR have the same model number, which is silly regardless of the explanation. We need to dig deeper and find the version of the model. Also, the NVR will show that your firmware is up to date even if it is not. So don't believe what the NVR says about the upgrade. I know this sounds like a lot of effort, but I did it the hard way by tinkering myself. Contacting Reolink support to see if you have the latest versions will save you a lot of time.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Some flaws

No two way communication when connected through ReoLink NVR is very disappointing
