flex cable. Looks sturdy and has a velcro closure to keep the extra length neat. I ordered 2 packs. One species clicked tight and immediately began charging. The other seemed to have a tight connection, but only accusations that I'm pointing the Kindle a certain way, but this could be due to wear and tear on the Kindle's input connection. Overall good for the price. I will update after a few weeks of use as they wear out pretty quickly.
