Review on Samsung Galaxy Watch Active (40mm) US Version - GPS Bluetooth Smartwatch with Fitness Tracker and Sleep Analysis in Black by Yani Bambang ᠌

Revainrating 3 out of 5

The average quality of the product, especially for such money.

In fact, my choice fell on this model because of the minimalistic but pleasant design and functionality, while not the worst autonomy. However, later I found out some important details. And before buying (especially (!) for people who want to seriously track physical activity), in my opinion, they should read the article Samsung Galaxy Watch Active - Sport & Fitness In-Depth Review by DC RAINMAKER. The author offers a very detailed review of this watch and its functionality, and perhaps I can’t add anything better. What I think are the most important takeaways from it: 1) When paired with an iPhone from the standard Samsung Health, data export from the phone is not possible (at least for now, and this has been going on for several years); 2) The optical heart rate sensor is far from perfect; 3) Samsung Health on the watch ates the heart rate data once a minute (unlike most - once a second). You can use third-party apps for this, like Strava and Endomondo, but due to point 2, this data may not be accurate at all. As a result, it turned out to be a fairly ordinary product, with its own chips and shortcomings. Based on my experience, I would most likely recommend either a regular fitness bracelet, which will cost 3-4+ times cheaper, or more advanced versions of smart / fitness watches from other manufacturers.

Pros
  • Convenient, compact. They have a great, bright screen. In general, they are quite functional and will satisfy most users. Autonomy is good - I have enough for 2 days on average, maybe a little more. It is not entirely clear why some users scold them for this, because with the given dimensions and functionality, as for me, this is not excellent, of course, but quite a good result.
Cons
  • 1) It's not clear how the vibration on the phone (on Android, at least) is related to the vibration on the watch. Specific example: the phone is set to vibrate. From some applications, vibro for notifications is turned off. In this case, the notification on the watch will be received, but when received from it, there will be no vibration on the stock. This is treated only by turning on the vibro for notifications in the phone settings and switching it to silent mode. Although I personally would not mind receiving part of the notifications on the phone with its vibration; 2) Despite the fact that I put autonomy in dignity, they charge very slowly. from 15% - two hours to full charge; 3) Sleep monitoring is weird. Judging by it, I am almost not in a deep sleep. + It happens that for half an hour in the middle of the night I am neither awake nor asleep. In this case, the chart is just a gap. Perhaps this is due to the algorithms for processing information from the sensors, or perhaps due to the imperfection of the optical pulse sensor (about it separately in the comments); 4) The top curtain can be customized, but why it's impossible to turn on / off bluetooth there, I don't understand. I understand that 4.2 eats batteries a little, but still. I would turn it off for the night, but for this you really need to delve into the jungle of settings; 5) The ability to export training data only through the application on Android.
