I repeated the process many times with the second fob and achieved nothing. In case anyone is curious, 2002-2009 GMC and Chevy (key fob) programming is pretty much the same: Put the key in the ignition. Press and hold the unlock button on the door. After a while you will hear a click, then turn the ignition key on and off 2 times (your car is now in programming mode). Now use both hands to press the unlock and lock buttons on the key fob for approximately 30 seconds and/or until you hear the vehicle locks click. Now turn the key on and off again to exit programming mode. Test your keychain. That should be the reason if you don't have a defective key fob.
