Did you know that needles should be changed AT LEAST every 5-8 hours of sewing? I would even advise you to change needles for every new project you make, even if the weight of the fabric is the same and even if it's been on your machine less than 5 hours. The tips of the needles must be sharp and the rods must be unbent. When I train new seamstresses, I find that most of their sewing machine problems are due to a bad needle or the wrong size needle. As a professional shopper with seven (non-industrial) machines, I sew A LOT and use LOTS of needles. These needles work really well with all of my sewing machines and if you keep the price in mind you can get them for as little as 7 or 8 cents each! For light fabrics I use #11 or #12 needles.
