I have switched to only using compostable garbage bags. These compostable bags fit my budget at just 13 cents per bag per week, while also being totally worth it for their eco-friendliness. I know it stands waterproof but we still avoid throwing wet objects at it so it will last a week. . There is no chemical smell, there is a faint smell of plastic, but that will dissipate over time. I have a very sensitive sense of smell and it doesn't bother me. The bag looks flimsy and doesn't seem that strong BUT it's strong enough to hold our junk. I suggest you don't stretch it too much as I don't know how it handles a lot of stretching. It is easy to break into a roll and also easy to open and tie.
