Review on Poly USB Bluetooth Speakerphone Plantronics by Sean Baller

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Best speakerphone for WFH

Like many others, I spend about 6 hours a day in remote meetings due to working from home and COVID. I started carrying my Airpods to all my meetings, but I was in so many meetings that my battery didn't last the rest of the day. I started looking for an alternative solution. At first I thought that finding a good speakerphone would be very easy (just search Revain and buy the top rated product) but found that wasn't the case. I ended up going through all the following devices: Jabra 510, Jabra 710, Jabra 750, finally Poly Sync 20. You NEED a speakerphone with full duplex audio (which only support Jabra 750 and Poly Sync 20). Otherwise, you might be talking about the other person and not even realizing it. It took me a few meetings to realize I was doing this (and others might mistake you for being rude). Duplex audio works on the Jabra 750, but somehow the DSP and processing makes your voice sound unnatural and distant. It was bad enough that several people commented on the poor quality of the microphone to me. I finally tried Poly Sync 20 (taking a bit of a risk because it was difficult to find reliable information about it) and I'm very glad I did! This solves many of the issues I've had with Jabra and has some additional benefits too. It does the most important thing I need from my speakerphone: it supports duplex audio while maintaining a natural and unprocessed voice. As a side benefit, the quality of the speaker for music playback sounds MUCH better than the Jabra. Jabra is tuned for speech only, so it has huge mid-boost and absolutely no bass. Poly Sync has a flatter frequency response so it can easily be used as a laptop speaker for listening to music or watching a movie. It also doubles as a phone charger so you can conveniently carry it in your pocket. What started out as a simple task (finding a good speakerphone for my WFH meetings) has turned into a much longer search, but I'm glad I finally found the speakerphone holy grail. One final note: I've had a really hard time finding any solid info on loud phones in general. It seems that most reviews are some form of affiliate marketing. For me, there was no substitute for ordering equipment and personally testing the quality of the microphone and speaker. Since then, this device has not been compared to Jabra devices.
