Works, I covered the flashing red light with a small square of tape which directs too much light onto other fake LED bulbs and creates a more real effect - the standard red flash is even bright in totally dark conditions. The flashing definitely lasts a long time with two AA batteries. For real applications this is great, in any situation where the person you're trying to fool can get closer than about 10ft - there's a pretty good chance they can tell they're old. In this situation I would buy a broken piece of real hardware off eBay though for $5 each with all the hardware etc. Definitely a good deal.
