Review on ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ Audio-Technica AT897 Shotgun Microphone: Ultimate Line/Gradient Condenser for Superior Audio Capture by Ben Daugherty

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Professional quality, affordable prices

Pure, real sound. Excellent for reducing ambient noise, except from the front of course. Outstanding construction and processing. All metal but very light. Made in Japan. Comes in a nice case; although too big. (Apparently the case is the same size for all longer pistol mics.) The nice thing is that you can cut out the foam in the extra space, put other small accessories inside, and store them in the bag. The microphone stand adapter is also of high quality. A windscreen helps reduce moderate wind or breath noise, but you still need a dead cat or airship: to me it's more useful as a mic cushion than a wind diffuser. In a similar price range: I've also used a couple of Rode Gun mics and I think this AT has a slightly "cleaner and crisper" pickup than the Rodes, although it's not as sensitive to noise by comparison record remotely. . In the higher price range: I used Sennheiser. and Sony, and to be honest I don't notice much difference in sound quality or sensitivity with those that are 2-3 times more expensive! Again, I am not writing down anything critical or scientific. Only human voices and ambient noise. Listening through AT and Panasonic studio headphones on the Zoom H4.

Pros
  • Dope ๐Ÿ”ฅ
Cons
  • Expensive

Great sound that doesn't break the bank. I've always had god fortune with Audio-Technica products.
