I heard a crackling sound when cleaning the putty with a conventional plastic spoon. Uh oh The shovel didn't seem to be broken but I was afraid it wouldn't last long. So I bought this shovel to replace it. It's much larger than a traditional plastic shovel, but also much stronger. My cats have a large enclosed litter box and now I don't have to worry about forcibly scooping out lumps that are stuck to the bottom or back. I also like the wrapped handle; much more comfortable to hold than if it were bare metal. The larger size and weight takes a little getting used to, but I'm very happy with it and know I won't suddenly try to use a broken shovel!
