After 3.5 years in the industry

I am a service technician specializing in electrical and control engineering. I bought this box back in May 2017 and I use it daily in different industries. During my work in the plastics industry, this box kept getting hit by forklifts and cranes, random adventurers trying to break it open for my tools, and every day after that it was loaded into the trunk of my car. I also use this box for my CNC manufacturing tasks. I like: - Easy to disassemble and load in the trunk of my car. - It can be wheeled through narrow aisles to equipment, which many other types of toolboxes cannot. - More metal than plastic - Protects my tools very well. What I don't like: - Although the frame of the box is steel, it can easily be dented - The plastic and aluminum parts of this box fail and need to be repaired and replaced from time to time. - Small tools can occasionally fall out of the rear drawers. - The slide-out shelf in the top drawer is made of injection-molded plastic and has a large opening under the handle, so tools can often fall out. I closed the hole to solve this common potential tool loss situation. Parts that were broken or damaged: - The plastic bottom panel where the rivets went through (fixed) - The clip on the plastic slide out organizer snapped (still works) - The drawer carry handle broke in the aluminum (remade from steel I had on hand) - The plastic flange that attaches the bottom half of the aluminum handle to the box is broken (attached with self-tapping screws from the plastic cross brace to the post of the box's main body) - All plastic braces that attach the bungee cord to the outside of the box (not used , so not repaired/replaced) - Plastic/metal clips fixing damage to the top of the box (damaged plastic holes but still usable, and steel hoops are bent and can be bent back into shape) - Bend steel mounting tabs for the top box often (easily enough to get straight again) Knowing what I know about this box, I just ordered a second identical box in the event that it finally fails. While I'd love to find a sturdier box with the same footprint, I can't find anything as well built let alone more durable. Here's my two cents.

Pros
  • Tool organizers
Cons
  • Nothing here
