The first came used with no software, just an OBD adapter in the box and a USB cable hastily plugged in. The item was returned and repurchased as Revane said it was the only thing I could do. The second came while I was on a business trip and it's brand new in the box but the software DVD is completely blank and ready to burn. I'm a little at a loss as to what to do at this moment. It would be great if this product could do what it claims, however 98% of this product is software which in my case seems elusive. Maybe I should keep buying and returning them until they get the hint? I wonder how many times you can do it. In any event, if you did not receive the advertised product (software), you did not receive what you purchased. **UPDATE** May 03, 2018 I have completed the return and ordered this a second time hoping to get everything on the second try. My order (new) arrived, but the software disk was empty. I arranged another return with a link to a blank software CD and was contacted by a seller who provided a link to the software. Unfortunately, I can't download 5GB through my 2MB DSL service, so the seller sent me a software CD. After getting the software, I installed everything and figured out how to use it. First, Tech2Win needs to run as a virtual machine on your computer, so it doesn't matter if your operating system is 64-bit (like mine). There are no instructions for this so I did the install as follows: - Install the VM software - Install the VX software (VX software is for a diagnostic socket that plugs into the car and replaces the GM MDI) - Use the Tech2 Win Auto install - Install the GM MDI Manager - **Before** opening the Tech2 Win, you must first open and run the VX Manger software and connect the vehicle's USB port for the VX Manager detects it (if you don't FIRST, Tech2 can't detect the location of the interface and shows "no connection" - Open Tech2 Win application directly, it will be automatically opened passively through the virtual machine on your computer , there you don't have to do anything with the VM software - when the Tech2 splash screen appears, press enter and you'll be prompted to choose which MDI you want the Tech2 software to recognize (which is why you go toe first have to start the VX manager, otherwise there is no MDI option to choose from). - Connect to the vehicle and start data query. I think a lot of the respondents who say it didn't work just couldn't find the right way. You need to install everything, not just details. Tech2 is looking for VM software to open. So if you don't install VM hardware (assuming you don't need it) it might not work. Also, the VX OBD2 interface and VX dispatcher software must be installed and running before opening the Tech2 app, otherwise Tech2 will not see the MDI interface (VX will spoof the MDI serial number) to communicate. Once I figure out the required path to get the job done, I can use it just like the Tech2 provided by GM. You're still limited to 1992-2013 models like you were with Tech2, so don't think you'll be using it on 2014-2018 vehicles as those aren't supported by Tech2 anyway. I was able to easily get into my 1996 K1500, 2004 CTS-V, 2005 Uplander (programmed key fobs) and 2013 Cruze. This is Tech2 software, so you can do anything Tech2 can do (except for PCM programming, you need a separate service for that). Overall, this is a great price for the features you get without needing a separate hand. held device. I used the same laptop that I use all my performance tuning on. I would hesitate to use this product on a device with personal information but that's just me. Overall I'm giving 4 stars because there are no instructions, no place to download the software if you want (although the seller provided a one-time download address). But it works as described!
