I have been successfully hunting bull elk for over 20 years and always take my Elk Inc. with me. - Power Bugle for finding bulls due to its massive volume. Also, spare bands are essential in the field as they don't take up space, pack away easily and are a cheap guarantee that you can use your bugle when you need it. White Band straps are made from the thickest latex available, making them the most durable and easiest to use, but they require a little more air pressure to sound than others. I use the white trail to spot bulls before sunrise or late at night. The gray stripes sit in the middle in terms of thickness and ease of blowing, allowing for more versatility. It can produce a higher pitched tone sometimes equated with that of smaller-throated bulls, or for early-season calling when the bull's throat has not expanded and becomes deep/hoarse with the call. The black bar is the thinnest and is best for more complex close-range calls and even for creating a cow noise. Because the black stripe is thin, it can wear out quickly in strong winds and is more prone to damage. Remember, you're not supposed to be threatening when you're looking for a moose, so just yell without adding any aggressive grunts. All you need is the answer to start hunting. At the end of the season, I store my spare bands in a cool, dry place out of the sun. My straps last a long time, and even after several seasons, replacement straps stay in like-new condition.
