The original (military style) non-bite valve works fine, but I've found that it always tends to leak when I close it. This bite valve is very comfortable and closes immediately when you stop biting. Presumably the Non-Bite is easier to use when you are very tired and don't want to use jaw strength or a helmet chin strap is preventing you from biting properly. In any case, they can be easily replaced thanks to the quick coupling.
