Review on ๐Ÿ“บ ANTOP HDTV and FM Amplified Antenna with Smart Boost System - 85 Mile Range - Dual Outputs - Supports TV, FM Stereo, and OTA-Ready Streaming Devices by Jeremy Gaines

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The thing is definitely aimed. Works quite well, but not amazing.

I wanted a good antenna for HDTV and FM radio. This kit seemed to do the trick. Note that I believe the 'J' at the end of some models (like the AT-800SBSJ) means they came with a J-bar as another attachment option, like mine. It included an amplifier with a built in splitter, which was perfect as I use both the FM tuner and the Sling AirTV as endpoints. We live in a valley surrounded by mountains. There are two TV/FM transmitter antennas on the mountain tops, one about 12 miles northwest and the other 1.5 miles southwest, so we were about halfway there. I thought it was an omnidirectional antenna, but the instructions even say to point it at the broadcast source. Since we have two that are about 160 degrees apart, I've tried to point out a thing or two. Neither gave me all the channels of the network. Only by carefully aiming roughly between them (ie to the east) was I able to get the best reception. Strange. It's mounted 20 feet above our roof, but there's at least a tree or two in the line of sight of both antennas. Being so close to the transmitting antennas, I expected better reception. This is very good when the amp is turned on at full power. It definitely took a twist of the antenna to find the sweet spot.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Not reliable
