These are exactly the same as regular pull ups but they don't swell when wet so they can be used in the pool. In the event of an accident, it retains both urine and feces fairly well, as long as the stool is firm enough. The best reason to buy them over waterproof swim underwear is that you can easily tear them up and throw them away if an accident happens. So far I haven't seen any pull up leaks and we've been buying them for the third or fourth year.
