Review on Wahl Professional Pilot Clipper 8483 by Alyssa Mansfield

Revainrating 5 out of 5

For our purposes the best hair clipper.

It's small, powerful and affordable. It seems that it has been created for centuries, and so far there have been no problems with it. I chose Pilot because I was looking for a hair clipper that my girlfriend could use on me. It had to meet a few basic requirements: 1) light weight 2) not much vibration 3) small size 4) strong enough to comb my hair, which many consumer clippers don't do very well. He meets these requirements perfectly. The Wankel engine ran particularly smoothly, but was light and powerful. It was very comfortable for both my girlfriend and I to hold, although my arms are wider and hers are quite graceful. The blade on this model is also interchangeable with larger Wahl clippers, as well as attachments that attach to the blade. This is good as I don't have to worry about replacing parts as I feel this clipper can last a long time. It never got too hot, it was actually colder than consumer grade products. It needs to be cleaned and oiled for proper maintenance, but it's easy, oil is cheap, and if you want to be really lazy there are sprays you can use for that purpose to make it even easier. Everything you really need was in the box to get started right away. I would recommend that you eventually purchase the cleaning and lubricating supplies you intend to use for maintenance as the ones provided are small but still work. I don't like anything about this hair clipper, even the cable feels comfortable and is more than sufficient in length. My only minor inconsistency is that there is no mention of the exact dimensions of the hair clipping combs (which are 1/16", 3/16", 1/8", 1/4"). 3/8"1/2" 3/4"1" if I remember correctly) and the size I liked the most was not included. It's honestly a bit of a game and not worth deducting a star as this is a professional product and you already have all the combs anyway and it's easy enough to buy. I just accidentally changed the size I use and actually the size is pretty much the same so I don't care and I won't be buying more combs just to be a more perfect size. It has a taper lever, but it's more advanced than I've found out so far, but maybe I'll get to that one day. Update June 2021: It was bought in December 2014, so it's already 6.5 years old. Absolutely no issues with this clipper other than a 50% price increase which caught my eye while I was writing an update. I just keep it clean with the little brush that comes with the kit and oil it with Wahl Professional Blade Oil. Yes there is an animal written on it but it is the same product and when I bought it it was the cheapest. I still haven't bothered to buy more combs, but that's out of laziness and life change. I took just one size smaller than I would prefer. I have nothing to add except that she outlived my friend Clipper by half (if not three times). It will only be used on my hair and kept in the original packaging so this is in no way a review for commercial use as this product is designed to be used.
