Review on simplehuman 8-inch Round Sensor Makeup Mirror with Touch-Control Dual Light Settings, 5x Magnification, Rechargeable & Cordless, Brushed Stainless Steel by Sierra Moore

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Excellent magnification, excellent light, for young people

I am not a young person. When I look in my trusty old 2X mirror, I see more than enough to apply whatever it takes and get on with my routine. This mirror is rated 5x which is five times the normal size and magnification of your face with all the imperfections it contains. At this magnification, I feel like I'm dying. Everyone tells me I have great skin for my age. You're right. I'm really. I've worked hard for years for this, but not in tune with this cause. According to this mirror, I might already be dead. So, on the one hand, this mirror does what it's supposed to do. It helps with the little grooming tasks we all need to do every day if we want to look our best. The light is excellent, does not blind. The magnification is revealing, to say the least. The hinge is loose enough to move freely but tight enough to hold the mirror at any angle you set for optimal use. The sensor function is amazing and represents exactly the kind of innovative design I've come to expect from simplehuman branded products over the years. Overall, this is a great option, but there are a few downsides. First, the price is too high. There are a few options for a quality backlit vanity mirror. Some are really dazzling, but most are not. You can find a good one for less than a hundred dollars. I've seen pretty decent models with lights, with a switch, not that good but still not bad, for like fifty bucks. So I have to wonder why this is so expensive compared to others on the market. Unfortunately, I really can't tell the difference between this and the $80 model I tested enough to tell you why. If adding a basic sensor saves me the simple push of a button to turn the device on or off and that's the reason for that price difference, then it's not worth it. I can push the button fairly easily, and having this thing turn on every time a cat walks in front of it is a bit annoying. The problem is that not all of us really want to know how badly we view such an increase. For an actress, this would be the perfect mirror. For a beautiful twenty year old girl who has never spent a day in the sun, this would be the perfect mirror. For me it's depression. The youngest person in the house is using it now as I couldn't take it anymore and he loves it. Her compliments on the quality of her face augmentation have continued for days now. But here's the kicker. She has severe vision problems, a degenerative eye condition that makes it very difficult to see up close. This mirror is exactly what the doctor literally ordered. So for a person who is going blind, it's great. If that person turns out to be very young and very handsome, so much the better. In summary: for a young, attractive person, a 5X mirror with excellent lighting is very valuable and a really wonderful option. For a person who is losing sight, it is literally a gift from God. This can go a long way in helping a visually impaired person see what they can no longer see. For that I say it's worth it. I think it should be a mirror for those who have poor eyesight. For everyone else, however, this is again a depressing thing. It's tempting to look at, tempting to walk past it, tempting to take a peek, tempting to hover over it and examine its flaws. It's not something I would recommend for the average person who doesn't have vision problems for that particular reason. We just shouldn't have seen our faces magnified to such frightening clarity. This is a five star mirror for the visually impaired. This is a five star mirror for a person who is exceptionally beautiful. This is a "three star" mirror for a woman of a certain age. So I averaged it and gave it four stars. When deciding what's best for you, I recommend asking yourself a few specific questions about how it's going to be used, where it's stored, how well you can see it, how often you'll be using it. Considering the price and the extraordinarily clear magnification, if it's to help a visually impaired person, there's no problem, just take it. If you use it to apply makeup and see well, it's too much money and too much mirror. 3X is enough, or even 2X. If kept in a closed bathroom, great. If it's stored on a surface that animals like to climb on, it's not great. Of course, they could knock him down, but even if they behaved very well, the cat would start several times and have to be moved because it would wake me up. If you're like my best friend, a person who is obsessed with her face, constantly looking at it and can't walk past the window without peeking and preening, then this is the mirror for you. If you're like me and it's the same, with a routine that lasts less than twenty minutes and doesn't occupy your mind for the rest of the day, then again this is too big a mirror for you. I hope I have helped you in your search for the right mirror. Good luck finding him and please remember that no one can see you that well. The person with the best view in the room cannot see you as clearly as any magnifying mirror will allow you to see yourself. You are far more beautiful than you feel when you look in your makeup mirror. Do not forget it. Don't think it's an exact reflection of your face. I guarantee you this is not the case.
