Review on ๐Ÿถ Natural Balance Limited Ingredient Diet Adult Grain-Free Canned Dog Food in 13 Ounce Cans - Protein Options: Duck, Venison, Buffalo, Fish, or Chicken - Pack of 12 by Michele Smith

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Mild enough to be eaten by an older dog without leaking. Also, it doesn't smell disgusting to the people in the house.

That gave my 15-year-old Shepard Mix a bit of momentum again. It's designed so that its delicate, tumor-ridden system can easily process it. As a human guest at his house (yes, it's my dog's house; he just lets me live here and pay the bills) I really appreciate the dramatic reduction in gas and odor emanating from my dog. According to one of his former vets, my bitch was the smallest of the litter and her digestive system was underdeveloped. All his life he had trouble digesting food. Since he was 15 the situation has only gotten worse, he has lost many teeth and tumors are growing all over his stomach and throat. (He doesn't let that slow him down, so we can enjoy him with the vet's care every day without having to make those awful decisions dog owners sometimes have to make.) When the "time" came, I tried Natural Balancing sweet potatoes and canned chicken as my last-ditch effort to find him food he's comfortable eating. WOW! My rating is by no means indicative of the food's ability to cure anything, but with just one feeding it was like getting a new dog. My 15 year old Shepard has stopped moping, he has started playing with toys again, the light has returned in his eyes and despite his arthritis he now runs into the kitchen ANYWHERE I get to the place whose food I keep. To me, the food doesn't smell or look like someone has already eaten it and thrown it away before canning it. It comes out of the jar looking like a mashed sweet potato and chicken, not a watery stew. It's soft enough to shred and spread on the plate with a spoon, while the other "purees" we tried were so jelly-like that I had to use a knife or heat them to break them apart . It's thick enough to hide his pills and covers them well enough that he can't suck food and spit out the pills like he's been trained to do. A few months since I first tried it I have no complaints. After 15 years I have finally found a dog food that makes me and the dog happy. The vet is also happy with it because unlike other soft foods I've tried, this food meets the dog's nutritional needs AND I don't have to sugarcoat it for him to eat it. On the contrary, I now wonder if my dog is getting enough food or if he has just become greedy when he has food that doesn't seem to cause an upset stomach, pain in his bad teeth, or a sore throat. After each feeding, it spends a good 15 to 20 minutes sniffing and licking the kitchen floor to pick up any bits it may have knocked off the plate during the dive. He had never done that before. Again, I can't and won't. I do not recommend this product for treating or treating anything other than dog hunger but this was a canned miracle for my very ill elderly canine friend. Banks must be opened with a can opener. I wish they came with pop tops.
