Review on Enhance Performance with American Standard 3280.040-0070A 4-Inch Flush Valve Assembly for Champion One Piece Toilets by Fredrick Edwards

Revainrating 4 out of 5

You may not actually need to change this valve.

There were no instructions on the quality of the instructions, but they are not needed because you just have to unscrew the four screws on the corners, pull out the old valve and gasket if it is stuck , and vice versa substitute. If you think this valve assembly is leaking, turn off the water in the toilet and allow sufficient time to drain to the point where it eventually settles. I say that because it continued to flow even after replacing the valve. After turning the water off for a day, I found that the water level was just below the valve assembly. I tried many repairs thinking it was the bottom pad but nothing helped. I ended up taking an entire 2.8 ounce tube of waterproof silicone and smearing it all around the base of the valve, being careful not to bury the screw heads, thinking I might have to remove them again one day. Guess it's still leaking at the same level. Another 2.8 ounces of silicone and this time I swallowed it in four corners and the heck could ever remove it. Success, the toilet stops working and with any luck I'll be relocated or dead before it works again.
