Revainrating 5 out of 5

About as good as the rest

OVERVIEW: At least $30 (maybe more) less than Nest, much better picture than Nest (even night vision) and gives you 2 days ( up to 1 GB) cloud storage for recordings. I dig it up. I give it 5 stars, it could be closer to 4.7 but I think what it needs will be added in software updates. I bought the nest 2 weeks ago and wasn't thrilled. It's a lot cheaper (although I bought the discounted Nest for $160, it's still $30) and gives you 2 days (up to 1GB) of free cloud storage. That's exactly why it's worth it, because every other camera (worth having) requires a subscription after the test phase. Everyone wants a piece of your monthly money because it's practically a guaranteed income if people forget they're paying for it. The quality of the product is MUCH better than Nest (I also have a pretty good Foscam spy camera that records to SD, Kasa Cam wins against that too). Setup was easy, but to be honest I'm pretty tech savvy. I understand that other reviewers are concerned about the white wire, but ultimately I think they went this route because of the likelihood of people running this camera somewhere where the wire would be on the wall. and there's a lot more white trim/light walls (or just walls that look better with white than black). Even if you hide the camera, there is a chance that the cable will also be hidden. That way, the instances where a black cable would be the best choice are minimal and it's just easier to let the user use one of the thousands they have. Work. Nest has a location setting that doesn't notify you when you're home. Thus, Kasa will turn off or on at the time you specify. An outlet you can leave on all the time, but then you won't get constant notifications when you're home; Meanwhile, on a random trip, you will receive a notification that a move has taken place. To achieve this with Kasa you have to turn it off and then turn it back on when you leave. Again, I think a software update for the app will come out and fix this. Also, it doesn't appear to be related to Google Home yet (which would make the above issue a little less complicated). but then again I'm pretty sure it's in depth since all her other stuff is linked. I think that's it.

Pros
  • Not cheap but decent
Cons
  • Not as thick as the others
