How about 6 stars? I've been a Pentax fan since 1973 - I grew up (and went to college) with the Pentax Spotmatic F. to my roots with the SLR. DSLR to be exact. After a long search, the K-3II seemed to be the best compromise between quality (image sensor) and flexibility (lens choice). This camera is really fun. I've had the Canon G series for almost 10 years) but it makes sense once you get used to it. You need to remember what the front and back dials do in relation to the current menu and you need to know where the buttons are to get through some initial sessions. Once you become familiar with the controls, Pentax's ergonomics begin to make sense. I especially like the grip, it's perfect for my hand. I like the large display, very bright, on the back. Easy to read even in daylight. Then comes the picture quality. The colors are very vibrant, reminding me of the original Ektachrome - not as surreal as Kodachrome, but real and vibrant. Skin tones are pleasing and shadow detail is excellent. The highlights can be a bit washed out, but I'll have to experiment to see if it's the camera or my settings. ) were excellent. The autofocus is fast and accurate. It's important to make sure you're focusing on the right area. Once or twice I've noticed it gets confusing due to specular light, but that just required repositioning. I highly recommend Pentax lenses. The battery life is good so far. When shooting 350 frames, the rate of fire dropped by a maximum of 20% at the peak. Pretty good. Dual memory chips for JPG and RAW capabilities is a wonderful and thoughtful option. Quickly remove the chips and plug them directly into my laptop for faster transmission. Finally, the instructions (yes, the paper booklet) are clear, concise, and easy to read. I look forward to many more hours of exploring this camera. I'm very happy with the K-3II and think it's a great addition to the Pentax family.
