I'm not sure what "softness" of an object really means? LOL The "sponge" inside is pretty safe and is used to dry clean your makeup brushes. I use this A LOT when changing colors and don't want to mix up my next color. And to clean, all you have to do is lather and dry the sponge and wipe the can with a rag.
