Review on πŸš— Carplay Double Din 7'' Car Stereo: Voice Control, Android Auto, FM, Bluetooth & More with Backup Camera by Juan Castillo

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Cumbersome car stereo software

This device is a group of car stereos called "receivers" or "digital receivers". Does NOT use CDs or DVDs, but an add-on for your phone or other connected device. It's about 2 inches deep which is exactly what I was looking for to fit an old Ford truck - full size CD player type stereos don't work. Good: It worked immediately. Great sound through my old truck speakers. All 2! However, if I had just stuck with radio, I would have rated it higher. Bad: The software is very clunky. I was able to connect my old iPod to the unit but couldn't control tunes through the stereo itself and with the stereo taking control of the iPod I was pretty much stuck where the software fell in terms of the songs. The songs also have no meta tags. My phone connected just fine, but basic phone functions didn't seem to work. Error dialing a number using the touchscreen. It seems like the device has to re-import my contact list every time. It took me about a month to set the time on this thing. Eventually it turned out that there is another screen to the right of the main screen with a few other features. Damned! This might be more obvious if I think of the stereo as more like a phone than a stereo. Or if the documentation was more helpful. Since I mostly just listen to the radio, this device is not bad for the price, but you might need more features.
