Everyone seems skeptical until they see the lens itself tried on myself. A bit of history: I used to use a Canon L glass with a Metabones adapter on my Sony A7RII as there weren't good zoom options before this lens. I was pretty happy with this setup until I got this lens. To me this is a WOW lens and I've been enjoying my A7RII a lot more lately. Here are the exceptional qualities of this lens, based on my brief experience with it: It's as sharp as a 55mm at best. Zeiss Prime lens with f1.8 aperture and it stays very sharp throughout the focus range. This is by far the sharpest zoom lens I've ever used. I can look at the RAW images this lens produces with the A7RII all day and find excellent detail and sharp lines everywhere I look (assuming I don't screw up the focus). This is a cropper's dream lens. - Very nice round bokeh - not creamy soft but definitely not loud or shaky. - Well balanced on the A7RII. This feels a lot better than my previous setup. Don't be afraid to hold it by the camera body. Focusing is 2-3x faster than the Canon/Metabones setup. There is also no wrong focus. It takes beautiful photos. Excellent IQ The image stabilization was great for me. It doesn't feel as jerky as some of my other lenses and is definitely way better than a Metabones/Canon lens setup. Robust construction. The buttons and switches are pleasant to the touch and well placed. The lens hood snaps into place and feels like it could take a hit.- Consistent focus distance is very nice when zooming in on your subject. And here are a few things not to beat the star for: - Slight fringing and chromatic aberration in very high-contrast scenes when shot in RAW format, easily fixed in post-processing. The zoom ring is too narrow for my use, making it difficult to rotate with two fingers. Zooming when shooting videos without a mount is not very nice. I'm hoping the ring will loosen up after some use, although I don't have to worry about lens shift. I wish the tripod mount was a little bigger. I'm used to the large tripod mounts on Canon zoom lenses, which makes these lenses feel more comfortable to hold and carry. I might look for a foam pen in the future. This is a heavy lens for its size. There's a lot of glass in this little case.
