Review on πŸ”‘ Enhanced Lexus Key Fob Shell Case: Remote Car Key Replacement Cover with Casing, 3 Buttons - Includes Screwdriver by John Banks

Great value but best for DIY

We had 2 broken key fobs where the plastic holding the metal key failed. Lexus charged $75 for repairs. This replacement case was much cheaper. First I had to remove the electronics and snap the plastic off the original metal key. Some large angle cutters and needle nose pliers did the trick. Next, you need to file a metal key so that it fits snugly against the plastic case. Luckily I read reviews from customers who tried installing the key in the case, it either broke or the plastic cover wouldn't close, so I knew it was necessary. The original metal key is T-shaped (long key and short vertical tip). The key has a rounded throat between the shank and the T-point and the plastic body has a square transition. The key was also slightly thicker than the slot in the case. I filed the metal key until I could fit it in so that it was flush with the edge of the plastic case. File just enough for the wrench to fit snugly. The plastic housing is then inserted into the lid along with the electronics and the lid snaps into place. This was very valuable for a crafter like me, but you probably won't like the result if you try to use it as is.
