Review on πŸ”ˆ Sony RDPXF100IP Black Portable Speaker Dock for iPhone/iPod with 30-Pin Connector (Discontinued by Manufacturer) by Chris Hernandez

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Best portable choice yet

I've tried the Logitech S315 Dock and the Bose Portable Sound and they're both good. I returned the Bose Portable Sound Dock because while the sound was good, as a Bose fan and owner I was hoping to be blown away by its excellent sound (I was expecting incredible Bose CD/Wave Radio sound). However, it didn't feel like it had as much bass as a budget and budget Logitech device. Also the price of $400 made me feel like it wasn't worth the money. I kept the Logitech S315 anyway as it still sounded above average and was a cheaper alternative. I was still looking for a better sounding alternative when I came across this Sony device. I didn't really picture Sony as a great audio and speaker company, so it was never my first choice when looking for a portable iPod dock. After reading all the great Revain reviews and the price was way lower than the Bose dock I was really planning to make for myself, I decided to give Sony a try. I was pleasantly surprised that this device actually sounds better than Logitech and as good as Bose. I find it to be a much cheaper solution compared to the Bose counterpart and that alone is a reason to buy a Sony. When it costs half the price and sounds just as good, it seems like a no-brainer. Another nice perk is that you can dock your iPhone with a case and have to remove the case (same goes for Logitech). . I remember with the Bose system I had to remove the outer iPhone case to plug it in. The optional FM function comes in handy when you want to listen to your favorite radio station but are unlikely to use it. VHF reception is good. Update 6/12/11 - I still love this device - still realize I never use the FM function as I only stream Pandora through my phone. VHF reception is also ok. I noticed that the Sony basses are very deep and sometimes muffled, especially when you have the ROCK sound preset. I have the POP preset and it sounds better. If you like bass in music, this unit has it, but maybe too much. Overall, this unit sounds great, is portable, and is more affordable than more expensive iPod docks.
