Good sound, bad quality. See 12th July update below - now 5 stars

I have had this radio for less than a year. I don't use the docking station - only the radio. Yes, it has great sound (that's two stars) and I really liked it, but for the past few months it's been obsessed, switching from "radio" to "audio-in". He will also rotate stations, apparently based on personal preference. It does not select stations that I have programmed. Today I decided to let him do his thing. It turns off for 5-10 minutes and then the station I was listening turns on again. Myโ€ฆ

Sony RDP-XF100IP - Exactly right!

I've narrowed down my iPod/iPhone speaker dock choices to the Logitech S715i, Bose SoundDock Portable and Sony RDP-XF100IP. The Logitech S715i got good reviews and is $85 cheaper than Sony (discount prices), but my iPhone 4 with Apple Bumper Case didn't dock until the case was removed. For me this is a deal breaker and I suspect too many users are overlooking this feature. Do you really want to remove the case every time you connect your iPhone/iPod to the dock? The Bose SoundDock Portableโ€ฆ

Great sound and portability!

Speakers sound great at high volumes. No distortion and the ability to adjust bass and treble with preset equalizer settings. Communication with the iPhone 4 works perfectly. You can change tracks on the iPod/iPhone with the remote, although you can't sort the folders (I don't see how you can sort the music folders anyway if you're not close enough to see them. And if you're 'if "You're close enough to see them, you don't need a remote. The portability is great and the built-in handle makes itโ€ฆ

Excellent docking station, too bad it has power issues.

Like many others I have spent some time at Best Buy comparing docks and have concluded that this is the best value for money. Revain had the best price so I bought it here. She has a great sound! Sometimes I turn up the volume and the bass sounds really good. I don't think it would be necessary to crank the volume up to the same volume as a standard boombox, but it does a great job of what I would call a loud volume. The radio reception is one of the best I've ever had. The touch buttons areโ€ฆ

Not everything is so portable

I don't know if the Sony RDP-XF100IP Portable Dock for iPod sounds "as good as Bose" or not. But it seriously lacks one of the advertised qualities: portability. .I bought this unit to use this summer while working as a fire station for the US Forest Service. Living on a mountain top pretty much means living "off the grid" - I have solar power, but no more. my batteries are up to 110VAC). I first tried this with a rectangular Wagan inverter and found that the dock would randomly switchโ€ฆ

Best portable choice yet

I've tried the Logitech S315 Dock and the Bose Portable Sound and they're both good. I returned the Bose Portable Sound Dock because while the sound was good, as a Bose fan and owner I was hoping to be blown away by its excellent sound (I was expecting incredible Bose CD/Wave Radio sound). However, it didn't feel like it had as much bass as a budget and budget Logitech device. Also the price of $400 made me feel like it wasn't worth the money. I kept the Logitech S315 anyway as it still sounded

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • No automatic controls
