Review on πŸ”ˆ Sony RDPXF100IP Black Portable Speaker Dock for iPhone/iPod with 30-Pin Connector (Discontinued by Manufacturer) by Alfonso Wilson

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Excellent docking station, too bad it has power issues.

Like many others I have spent some time at Best Buy comparing docks and have concluded that this is the best value for money. Revain had the best price so I bought it here. She has a great sound! Sometimes I turn up the volume and the bass sounds really good. I don't think it would be necessary to crank the volume up to the same volume as a standard boombox, but it does a great job of what I would call a loud volume. The radio reception is one of the best I've ever had. The touch buttons are easy to use once you get used to them. They are very delicate and only require a light touch to use them. I also like that there are options to change the EQ levels. It's the perfect size, taking up just over a corner of a table. Even at this size, it has excellent projection around the room, even at low volumes. Only here is the problem. I got this dock about two months ago and after about a month it started changing features on its own. I was listening to my iPod and it switched to the radio. I thought I could sit on the console but no. The remote control is on the table. It only happened a few times at first, but more often lately. The function has been changed at least 4 times in the last hour, approximately every 10-15 minutes. It becomes unbearable as I sometimes like to wear it all day on weekends and weekday evenings. It's impractical to interrupt what I'm doing to get it working properly again. At the moment I can recommend this product with a warning of a possible problem. If it gets worse I'll change my rating to not recommended. It's a shame because it has a great sound for the size and price. UPDATE 2/11/12: The mode switching issue got much worse, but I was able to determine what was causing it. Apparently the problem is with the power cord. This only happens when it is connected to the network. If it only runs on battery, there are no problems. Shame on Sony for the poor quality. I am reducing my rating to 2 stars.
