The following two rain jackets are compared in this test: Columbia Women's Shine Struck II Waterproof Rain Mid Hooded Jacket (XL, Red Camellia) on sale for about $100 versus . Marmot Essential Women's Lightweight Waterproof Rain Jacket, GORE-TEX with PACLITE Technology, Dark Crimson costs about $170. special feature . The size was about the same. I ordered size XL (one size larger than my shirt size) and both have worked well both alone and with fleece. Hand movements were easy and comfortable on both. The hood fits both of them about the same. Both had a drawstring to adjust the hood. Both have two-way zippers. See photo for color comparison. Marmot: Good color - dark red - good description. It's about 2" longer (this Marmot XL size is 34" long from hood seam to hem) than Columbia, which barely covers my butt when I'm sitting (32" from hood seam to hem) and on the pockets, making it difficult to put your hand in your pocket.) Velcro doesn't work after a while? No inside pocket. Zippers are good for ventilation. Forest cut (maybe because it's longer?) Colombia: I liked buttons instead Velcro closure as I often just zip up a few instead of using a zipper.Shorter than Marmot (length 32" from hood seam to hem). Doesn't really cover my bum when I'm sitting (I have a longer torso). Pocket . There is a gap of about 2" in the seams of this inner bag (small things may fall out, or it can be sewn up easily to prevent small things from falling out), which can easily fit the earphone cords. This bag fits p perfect for my phone and keeps it dry and clean. It has ventilation in the back - maybe better than zips - haven't tried these but some ventilation is good. I think even with breathable fabric it can get sticky without vent holes. Camille's red color is fine. much lighter/orange/pink than Dark Rasberry Marmot. Red Camilla is very similar to the azalea that blooms in my neighbor's garden. See photo. Conclusion: I'm going to Colombia. Although I liked the marmot color better and looked better with my mod (I'm winter), my only goal in the new raincoat was that it was a LIGHT raincoat that would make me visible in the rain and fog in the Northwest, I'm not without crazy about Colombia's color but it fits the bill. Zippers are better than velcro. It was a big deciding factor. I need snapshots. Although it's shorter (I like the longer Marmot with my long torso) I think it's ok, it's long enough and I like the Columbia's internal pockets and back vents. Don't think I'll be using unnecessary string to tie it since I'm thick in the middle, but a nice feature nonetheless. Although the fabric (Marmot is Gore-Tex, Columbia is another waterproof/breathable fabric) is about the same weight, Columbia feels more flexible and thinner. I think. And also. When I got it, it was about $70 cheaper.
