For the last 5 years this has been my main compass for adventure racing navigation. That's a good compass. This works great to get a quick overview of the direction you are moving in. If you think this is not the compass you want to use. I've competed in many 24 hour races where this was the only compass I used during the race. There are many one star reviews here from people who don't understand how to use the product. There is a window on the back of the compass. You can see it in the photo, a small rectangle with a pointer at the top. Here you should read the title. If your compass is pointing north, you will see a "0" (this is the south end of the needle) in the window on the back of the compass. The compass is correctly marked. I'm amazed so many people think this is a dive compass. This is not a dive compass. It was not intended as a diving compass. I wish it was faster. I have a thumb compass with a faster needle and it feels so luxurious compared to this thing. Faster needle and I would give 5 stars.
