Worthless.

Needle often gets stuck, even on flat glass tables with no metal. I have a small $2 compass that is vastly superior to this one in accuracy and quality. I was hoping to use this with my lens compass to stay on course while hiking. If you shake it and play with it a bit and keep it perfectly level, you can get it to about 30 degrees of accuracy. (not my idea of usefulness) As soon as you hold it in your hands you realize that it is very light and of poor quality. To be honest I can't think of…

"Mech " for military use

I bought this to get rid of annoying lens checks of the compass on the go in tactical conditions, but two things were missing: 1. Reverse numbering seems good, but if you Tired from two hours of sleep, it just confuses you. 2. Impossible to read in the dark. Does not light to actually read your bearing. Also, the fact that the north-pointing needle is red makes red-lens flashlights useless for a quick compass check. Save money and get a basic NSEW wrist compass that attaches to your wristwatch.

Must be absolutely level to work.

This rating is for the newer version with triangle arrows. The bold numbering and graphics on this compass are great for old eyes. But it has to be absolutely flat to work and is not suitable for a wrist compass or even a handheld compass. If you can take an inverted compass chart, you'll have to look at it directly or from an awkward angle to see the bearing hidden beneath the bezel. It is best to use the reverse angle. I need a wrist compass to operate the paramotor. This Suunto is not. I…

It basically works.

Well it works. You hold it at eye level and look out the side window and see your bearing in 5 degree increments, numbered every 30 degrees. So you can estimate with an accuracy of 2 degrees. The entire disk glows in the dark, not very bright, but sufficient for working. You can point in the direction you want to go, rotate the entire dial until the red triangle overlaps the black triangle, then keep that direction as you go and check regularly. The numbers are upside down so use the arrow and…

Strap too long? Not really!

In my opinion, this compass has no design flaws. Here is the proof. Someone says the strap is too long. based. First, go to the manufacturer's website and look at the promotional image: This compass should be worn OVER WINTER CLOTHING, as it is designed to withstand temperatures down to -30 (and up to +50) degrees Celsius. What to do if we don't have a winter jacket at hand because it's (for example) mid-June? Very simple: 1. Insert the compass strap into the slots on the compass housing; 2…

Excellent wrist compass

For the last 5 years this has been my main compass for adventure racing navigation. That's a good compass. This works great to get a quick overview of the direction you are moving in. If you think this is not the compass you want to use. I've competed in many 24 hour races where this was the only compass I used during the race. There are many one star reviews here from people who don't understand how to use the product. There is a window on the back of the compass. You can see it in the photo…

Excellent compass. Terrible design.

That's my fault I thought, but I expected to be able to put this compass on a watch strap. Not correct! It only works with the cheap velcro strap that comes with the compass. It's a $25 compass that comes with 5-cent tape that you can clip to your wrist. Who came up with this stupid approach? SUUNTO is known for manufacturing high quality compasses. I own several. But their design team working on their wrist compasses should be fired. Serious. First I bought their Clipper Compass which fits on…

A nice little compass for the price.

Ability to determine course, north and/or navigation in general is great. Like everyone else, you need the skill to use this tool and I'll admit I'm a little rusty. This little man is great for quick, general directions or a quick check of direction when navigating, hiking, or whatever. But I wouldn't use it as my primary navigation tool. Pros: it works. The arrows are clearly visible and the Bessal will rotate to distract or chart your course. There is a small sight system that uses a notch…
