Review on Translucent Phthalate-Free Brush Block Protector by Allie Hull

Cheaper and appears to be just as effective as Colorscience's original clear paint.

I am redheaded and have very fair skin that likes to bask in various shades of a lobster dinner. When I was in Iraq, I used Colorscience brush-on sunscreen. It was very comfortable, many men have borrowed it from me, it protected my skin well and was more portable in my pockets than liquid sunscreen. I also liked that I can easily apply it to my ears, scalp, hands, etc. So I decided I needed a new one for my upcoming trip to the Caribbean and I was shocked by the stickers. $50 for a new tube! I bought the last one at a boutique for $25. This brand was suggested by Amazon. I went and compared the ingredients. they are. Similar. Not exactly. But pretty close. This one advertises water resistance, but there doesn't seem to be as much advertising for sweat/water resistance as there is for color science. I think actually you really need to carry this with you and repeat it often because it's a face powder and not a liquid. After that has been said. I didn't get too much sunburn in Iraq. And since I recently rode my bike around town and exercised in the sun, I didn't get sunburned either. Reapply approximately every 30 minutes. The final test will be when I walk, sweat and tour in the Caribbean sun for 2 weeks and I will update at that time. If all goes well, I'd say the savings are definitely worth it. Both emit a fluffy "powder" spray when you hit them on the head with some force. The Colorscience Container is thicker and generally has a better mechanism for the little plastic piece that closes the brush when it's done. In Colorscience, this "activates" the brush, meaning it doesn't start working until you snap it. (This may have changed since my last purchase.) It doesn't matter in this case, nor does it slide smoothly into place. it just rubs on the edges and "stops". However, the amount of product that comes out on both brushes seems sufficient. I love the results I get with it and have been using it daily to protect my skin since it arrived.

Pros
  • Not just useful for its intended purpose
Cons
  • There are cons
