Encyclopedia of Mail Weave

This is Fong's book to be honest, but finally here is a book on Mail Weave that's mostly about skill development, not projects that cover variations on some techniques . My first book on chain mail was the classic Great Wire Jewelry by Irene Frome Peterson. Chain Maille Jewelry by Karen Karon appears to be the heir to Peterson's book. This is an anthology of chainmail weaving. There are some great chain jewelry books and DVDs out there right now, and those who are into chain mail already have them. When it comes to Rebecca necklaces, Mojica is probably the best, not only because of the photos and great designs, but also because of the quality of the information and instructions. However, Chained does not show the European 4 in 1 nor any Persian weave, but covers the Japanese 12 in 2 which is not found in Chain Maille's jewelry workshop. Chain Maille jewelry workshop offers several variations of weaving. It is dedicated to teaching a variety of classic weaves, not just 4 or 5 weaves, before the author strays from his own unique weaves. A good chain letter book will cover the basics: wire gauges, metal types, opening and closing jump rings, and the math (uh) of making chain mail. Caron uses the following terms to insert a new adapter ring through the intersections of the previous adapter rings: TE for through the eye and AE for around the eye are used when discussing ring placement with clear illustrations. It offers a comprehensive discussion of all important proportions. .Now about chains. Starts with the base - 1 in 1; 2 in 1; and 2 in 2. Next is the chain mail classic: European 4 in 1, Byzantine / (aka Birdcage) Box (aka Queen Link, Inca Puno) This chapter talks about weaving flowers / rosettes as it is used as a connecting element. Celtic (aka Parallel, Helm) Spiral/Double Spiral Jens Pind Persian Bindings: Full Persian (aka Foxtail) Half Persian 4 in 1 using a template to stabilize the rings when designing the Half Persian 3 in 1 Half Persian 3 in 1 arch pattern. No GSG (Great Southern Gathering), but it is like this weave. Round Weave Inverted or Open Round Mail Round MailTurkish Round Dragon Scale with instructions for a stunning dragon scale collar. Instructions are clearly illustrated with color coded adapter rings. There are beautiful photos of each fabric. The final chapter gives detailed advice on using clasps and other found objects, as well as using fabrics to make jewelry. At the end of the book are about 20 pages of aspect ratios and conversion charts. For those interested in chainmail or just starting out, add this to your library. and on the use of fabrics to make jewellery.
