I got this so my three fiddler crabs have all the nutrients and metals in the water they need to be healthy and happy and yes, the ability to at need to lose. I wasn't sure if it worked but then after using it for a month and replacing it my greatest fiddler just threw away his old sink. ALSO his new clothes are getting tough as expected and he has grown a bit. All of this means that this product does what it was designed to do. But on the other hand, Sea Chem has a good reputation for a reason. This product contains ALL the micronutrients a freshwater aquarium needs. I use it like Directed - it works.
