Sudden loss of brightness after 300 hours

A week after the return window has expired, the lamp suddenly loses around 80% of its brightness. Less than 300 hours and now it's useless even in pitch black darkness. I have used several brands over the years and have never had this problem. They either blow or slowly fade away. What's new to me is that one of them instantly goes from normal to almost full lighting.
