The sphere itself is surprisingly heavy and looks well made for the money you are paying. So far the watch keeps accurate time thanks to the small watch battery that is included. The base is just a piece of plastic with a depression on top that holds the ball. It doesn't stick in any way, so you can easily swap it out for something else if you want something more interesting. The clock is ticking quietly in case you're worried about that. I personally have it on my desk at work and find it calming.
