Review on Amcrest Doorbell Detection Weatherproof Wide Angle by Larry Simpson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I like it; but there are some problems.

I was offered to review one first but my opinion remains my own and will not depend on it. I love this doorbell. It has good clarity with light. When the app is set to only detect "people" and not just any movement, I have a notification on my phone when a person reaches my door. Understand that this notification travels through my WiFi, the Internet, my carrier, and then to my phone in about the time it takes someone to walk about 20 feet. The doorbell transformer was a 16V 5VA device and was not powerful enough to reliably service this AD410 and it would eventually stop working. I bought a Revain 18V 500mA "wall wort" and the AD410 worked fine. I'll say I haven't figured out the doorbell yet, my mechanical doorbell. I think I'll add an email call so I can change the tones so I don't really have to worry about fixing the issue. Since my wife and I work from home, I don't want the doorbell ringing either. I'd rather have my phone alert us so we can control the audio. If you see the photos, my original "knob" is close to the wall. Since I mount the AD410 close to the wall, I installed the supplied mounting bracket. The backlight reflects enough light at night that night vision (IR) is turned off "most of the time". Because I have motion activated lights on both sides of the garage door, there is enough light to create a color image at night. When AD410 enters night mode, it works normally; but i prefer the color. I will mention the additional downward light. You can include it in the schedule, which is a nice feature. But what I love about it is that I now have enough light for the family to get to the door late at night without having to turn on the motion-activated (dim/on) light on the porch ceiling. Turning on this light will give too much light to the two front bedrooms. So now I can ditch it and use the AD410 dome light to "light the way". One of the images shows a ceiling lamp directed downwards. The other is at dusk when I force night mode. The last picture was taken while working at sunset. I could easily share the camera with my kids and wife. They just create their app account and I'll send them a camera invite. I didn't use cloud recording as I use Blue Iris locally. This camera works perfectly with my Blue Iris DVR. A note on streaming with VLC. For some reason VLC wants me to keep re-entering my camera's user/password, even if they're entered correctly. I "managed" to get VLC to stream, but not reliably. Blue Iris can easily record the stream, so I think it might be VLC. I removed 1 barrel due to a night vision issue although I prefer it to remain in colour. Others may feel differently than I do and I assume others will also have a wall reflection problem. I would buy this AD410 again.

Pros
  • Dome Cameras
Cons
  • Slightly Crumpled
