I have used this lens for MP night work and men hunting and have had no issues with the build quality of this lens. However, I recommend that you use this lens for a dedicated flashlight rather than keeping it separate from your flashlight "just in case". It fits snugly and would be awkward to unfold if you need a red filter light immediately and it hasn't already been installed. I keep this lens on a standard Streamlight Strion LED in my cargo bag while on duty. My main light source is another Streamlight Strion (HL) with no filter. Finally, the loop on the filter is spring-loaded, so if you need to quickly switch from filter to non-filter mode, just wiggle your thumb. It easily slides back into place when you want it.
