UPDATE: I managed to get the smell out and use this lid BUT it comes back easily (like leaving green tea in it overnight before putting it in the wash) and then really difficult to get rid of, even after soaking and cleaning. I think removing the silicone ring helped remove it, but other lids I've had have a tight ring that keeps anything from getting under (or growing) underneath. Basically, if I leave anything other than water in the cup for more than 24 hours, even if I take out the ring and soak all the parts in hot water, vinegar, bleach mixture, etc., it's very difficult to clean it takes an incredible amount of time and effort. I've been using this lid for two days and thought I'd found my new favorite lid. It doesn't leak at all, doesn't fly out of the bottle even if I pull on it (I tested this because caps have done that to me in the past) but as another reviewer said, this cap is so easy to close and mold ! I washed it both times, I used it with hot water and a good soap and I removed the rubber/silicone rings but after washing I smelled mold. So I soaked it in vinegar overnight, washed, it still smelled like mold. I soaked it in bleach overnight, washed it still smelled of mold. Finally soaked in peroxide. for two days. washed and you know what? Still smells like mold. Again, I'm very disappointed as the design is my favorite out of all the lids I've tried.
