This is an overview of using the Uptake adapter with the Mini DisplayPort version of the Apple monitor. NOT the THUNDERBOLT version. The monitor cable consists of 3 parts: 1) Mini DisplayPort monitor (MDP), which is included in the UpTab adapter. The UpTab adapter then plugs into one of the USB-C ports on the MacBookPro. 2) The monitor's USB port is connected to another USB to USB-C adapter that I purchased separately. It then connects to another USB-C port on the MacBookPro. 3) The cable for charging the monitor from a computer is NOT USED. You still need the power adapter that came with your computer. I use the monitor with the MacBookPro closed, but you can also use it as an extended monitor with the MacBookPro open. Pros: Monitor's iSight cameras work for FaceTime/Zoom etc. Monitor audio works well. Monitors have 3 USB ports. Monitor sleeps and wakes up as expected. Cons: Hard to justify buying a new monitor! :-) In general I am satisfied. At $38 for this adapter and $9 for another adapter, I was able to put off buying the $1299 LG UltraFine 5K display. Hope that helps.
