survived TWO trips through the washing machine!

We bought this camera as the first camera for our 8 year old son who is an aspiring wildlife photographer. He likes the fact that this camera is pocket-sized. He loves to take it everywhere, photographing birds, family, anything that interests him. The really big downside of this camera is its pocket size. :) Since I believe that wearers of pants or shorts should clean their pockets, I don't do that before throwing them in the washing machine. After spotting the camera on the bottom of the washing machine, I was absolutely certain the job was done. I researched online and realized that I probably did more damage trying to turn it on. Although I didn't have much hope, I removed the battery, SD card and left the small "door" open. I put the camera, battery, and card in a bowl of rice (completely covered) for two to three days. After that time I put the memory card and battery back into the camera and, wonder of all wonders, it worked! Think our son learned his lesson, imagine my shock when I found the same camera again a few months later. at the bottom of the washing machine. After causing quite a scandal and telling our son he needed to buy his next camera, I tried the rice trick again. Once again, the camera and SD card survived. The battery didn't last the second time around, but I wasn't too upset because I just couldn't believe how well the camera itself held up. Changing the battery was expensive so I thought twice before buying one. In fact, I'm going to buy another one because the first one has finally expired. My nine-year-old son was taking a picture when he was hit from behind and dropped his camera on the limestone floor over the weekend. That smack on the front of the camera finished her off. While I can't vouch for the quality of the camera's footage (you get what you pay for!), it's a solid camera and great for kids who want to learn how to take photos.
