If it works, it's great. Unfortunately it rarely works

So many people recommended this HRM to me that I was shocked when I had problems with it. I bought this Scosche HRM specifically for the P*loton bike. I just need an HRM that will give me accurate heart rate and calorie burn while spinning and maybe floor training. Right out of the box it looked fantastic. Plugged right into the bike, took a few rides and got great readings. However, as I tried to use it, it became less and less reliable. First of all, don't even think about installing the app on your phone and connecting the device through the app. The app literally doesn't work. The device that the app is trying to connect to could not be connected to the app. He never recognized the device. And as soon as I connected the device to my phone via Bluetooth, it completely disconnected from the bike. I had to completely remove it from my phone and bike and restart everything to get it back on the bike. As I said in the title, when Scosche works, it's awesome. After the first few uses, however, I wasn't able to get any accurate readings from it. If AND ONLY IF it was fully charged I would get a ride with accurate conclusions. A ride with a full charge. After that ride, the Scosche turned on but showed my heart rate at 60 even when I was in the middle of a climb or interval where my heart rate was well over 100bpm. If the heart rate is not accurate, the calorie count will not be accurate. Basically it was useless. In the end I returned. Maybe my device was defective, I don't know. So many other people are raving about this HRM that it's entirely possible mine was just plain bad. But I'm ordering a chest strap, I need something reliable.
