I chose this jacket because it was said to perform well in wet conditions (I have a Northern Face thermal balloon which is my personal favourite, but I wanted a longer coat for very cold days). Unlike down, which smells awful if you accidentally wear it in sleet or rain, synthetic fabric will still keep you warm, and most importantly, it doesn't smell awful and doesn't need to be washed right away. I wore this in Chicago 05F in the winter. -20F, no temperature complaints. To be honest, even if the temperature is below 20, you still need long underwear and a thick sweater. This is good in strong winds. It's not very flattering around pockets (looks like thick pouches), but it's warm and dry. And for a long time. This is important. I usually wear a coat in a large size so I can later, but I ordered a medium size as it is oversized (hips can be an issue when choosing a bust size). It's more than I want, but not a deal breaker. For reference, my height is 5ft 3ft, 130lbs and bust is 36lbs. If need be, I could wear two or three sweatshirts underneath.
