Review on Iced Salad Dome Lid by Prodyne by Eric Dailey

Pretty good. with reservations

We have been looking for an item like this for a long time to cool the fruit salad that we serve for breakfast. It cools pretty well and pleases the local health department. Simply add some more ice to the bowl and set the stainless steel bowl on top, sticking out about half an inch over the rim. Over time, it settles on ice. If you put in the "ideal" amount of ice to start with, it will likely melt too low to be useful. We use a stainless steel ladle/spoon, not the plastic that comes with it. The bowl and lid appear to be made out of clear polystyrene plastic, which is why we don't use our high-temperature commercial dishwashers (read: I'm melting!). It can scratch easily, so handle it carefully. I would like acrylic. But unfortunately. 3/25/13 Make sure you (or your "helpful" staff) only rinse and wipe this item. I found a well intentioned attempt to wash it off with a washcloth. After noticing a scratch mark on the bowl last week and grumbling to myself afterwards, I remembered that this block was made of styrofoam. As a softer plastic, it CAN be polished. So just grab a DRY terry towel, roll up your sleeves, squeeze hard, and rub like crazy (or crazy, depending on which shoes fit). It is back in ALMOST BRAND NEW condition. BTW, take a black "sharp marker" and write backwards on the bottom so you can read "HANDWASH ONLY/NO SCRUBBING" on the top. Much luck! But it still works great!

Pros
  • Serving plates, trays and plates
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for seniors
