This is the second set of 'alternative lacing systems' that I've tried, the first being Hickies (which I still feel suffer from the issue of shooting for a play on a silly word and coming out sounding like something a teenager hides from his or her parents with a scarf) which I was not eminently fond of due to difficulties using them on the pair of shoes I had intended. While Xpand works considerably better on that particular pair of shoes I am just not convinced that they are better than traditional laces. It is just that while it works well in terms of keeping shoes on my feet they tend to get very tight while I sit still. When I get up and move they are extremely comfortable but the issue with them becoming too tight requires me to constantly fidget with my feet so as to prevent the circulation from being restricted. Good, but I'm not sure I could replace all of my laces with them.

Pros
  • Shoelaces
Cons
  • The elastic lace material may wear out or break more easily than traditional laces, requiring more frequent replacements
