Works in an emergency, that's why I bought it, but I didn't test the battery life, so even the cheapest headphones sound better. Sounds better with headphones, but not by much. If you're looking for a small sound machine, this isn't it. If you're just looking for a backup radio in the event of a power outage, it works. Don't forget to also use aluminum foil to improve reception. The light works as advertised and the indicator light will indicate charging when exposed to light.
