A solid camera with some serious problems

Ok, first let me give you an idea of how well I know this camera. In the summer of 2009 I cycled across America with this camera. And today I'm going to Tanzania for 5 weeks to climb Kilimanjaro (I'll update this review with the performance of this camera). I've had a lot of time to study this camera seriously and there are things I love and things I hate. BUILD QUALITY: Can't tell from the pictures but it's built like a tank. The body seems to be mostly metal which is a blessing during my bike ride where I had a bad accident which luckily the camera survived (on the other hand my bike's rear wheel isn't that good). The buttons feel a little soft, but otherwise this is a solid camera. SCREEN: It's not big, but it does the job. ISO: This isn't the camera's strong suit, at low levels the noise is negligible, but once you start increasing the ISO you get a lot of noise. IMAGE QUALITY: The image quality is quite good, but unlike Nikon's DSLRs, it doesn't increase the contrast above the camera's famous "Nikon Standard". I wish it were, but it depends on personal preference and editing can be done on a computer. GPS CAPABILITIES: This was one of the first cameras with built-in GPS, and it's a mech to say the least. ." It takes an absurdly long time to get a lock and don't even think about trying to get a lock to get indoors or anywhere other than an open field If it has a lock it is very stable and it is very difficult for the camera to lose the lock BATTERY REGISTRATION: This is a pretty bad battery, not a new generation type and that inefficient gps module will break them quickly. In that regard, I have high hopes for the [hypothetical] P7000. Let's hope the P7000 has a better GPS chip, better battery and less noise. If they could, I would buy right now But now I would buy one of the Sony [Sony DSC] cameras - HX5V], Samsung [Samsung HZ35W] or Panasonic [Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7] P&S if GPS is important to you.
